Phuket Race Week
August 9, 2013The sparkling white sands and crystal-clear aqua sea of Kata Beach is just a few minutes drive south
of Karon Beach. At 1 km long it is split into two defined areas: Kata Centre, which is the northern end close to Karon, and Kata South. Kata Centre has plenty of shops to browse in, where you will find everything from traditional Thai souvenirs to name branded fashion outlets, while Kata South is home to Phuket Luxury Villas and resorts. That is not to say that this is a built up, touristy area, Kata very much retains its original village feel, and is extremely friendly.
Kata beach is very popular with families due its safe swimming areas, great restaurants and chilled atmosphere. It is certainly more peaceful and less lively than Patong, yet with plenty available to do. There are the usual offerings of water sports and massage parlours but there is also the option for a drive to a spectacular viewpoint that is situated on the hill between Kata and Rawai, a great way to see the coastline of the island. The scenic Pu Island is also offshore and can be visited by boat hire.
From May to October Kata beach is a surfers paradise due to its excellent waves but from November to April it is the perfect Phuket beach for sunbathing and relaxation!
