A Perfect Phuket Meal

So it’s Christmas, and you are entertaining a host of festivity minded people in your Phuket luxury villa. What are you going to serve? Rather than bringing Christmas to Phuket why not add Phuket to your Christmas meal with some traditional Thai fare? Here are ideas for 5 fabulous dishes and links to the recipes!

1. Tom Yam Goon:  Thanks to the use of some of the most easily identifiable Thai herbs, this recipe evokes Phuket in every whiff and mouthful! The perfect starter, this dish consists of chilli’s, fish sauce, large shrimp (goong) and mushrooms. It can also be served with rice if used as a main meal.

2. The classic Pad Thai: No Thai meal is complete without a dish of this on the table, and to forget could cause considerable disappointment! There are many variations but basically the dish consists of noodles,bean sprouts, onions, and of course, ground peanuts.

3. Geng Kheaw Wan Gai (Green Curry Chicken) :Of all the curries associated with Thailand this is the most traditional and tasty! Spicy and a very distinctive green colour, the taste of coconut almost comes as a surprise to the uninitiated!

4. Jim Jun (Thai Hot Pot): The perfect sociable dish, to be enjoyed outside while entertaining round your Phuket pool villa. A small clay pot filled with an aromatic broth sits over a bed of charcoal. A blend of herbs forms the soup foundation of jim jum and then it’s up to you to add as many vegetables and pieces of pork as you want to taste.

5. Som tam: This is a spicy papaya salad that is great as a side dish or starter. Although tastes vary across Thailand, common to all recipes is shredded green papaya and spice. If wishing to serve as a main meal or add some substance, barbequed chicken and sticky rice are the perfect companions.
