Phuket Public Transport

Even though Phuket is one of the most tourist friendly islands in Thailand, somewhat suprisingly its public transport system can be a tad confusing!  Below are the 3 main public transport options for getting around the island to and from your Phuket Luxury Homes.

Buses, or songtaew as they re known in Phuket, are are easily spotted by their vivid blue hue. With their  open aired seating and being the least expensive transport option ( approx. cost generally 10 – 40 Baht) buses are an easy and popular choice, but may be on the slow side for some. All buses run from a central depot in Phuket Town and stop at all major tourist and beach areas; although there are no designated songtaew stops drivers will pull over when waved down.

Motor cycle taxis are for the lone traveler and are ideal if you are only traveling a short distance. Easy identified by the red bike and the drivers numbered red vest, they tend to hang about in busy areas waiting for fares. No journey should cost more than 50 baht, just remember to agree a price before setting off.

The Tuk Tuk is a small 3 wheel motorcycle that can carry a group of people in the carriage. The name comes from the sound the original Tuk Tuk engines used to make! Ideal for going short distances around the island and worth the ride just for the experience, Tuk Tuks are a great option. However, remember that all prices are negotiable and there are always other Tuk Tuks if the price is too high. Also the price at night can escalate sharply and a note of caution must be advised in using this mode of transport.
