Activities in Phuket for Children: Part ll
January 17, 2014One of the benefits of owning a Phuket beach bungalow is access to all the Phuket festivals and celebrations through the year, and the annual Red Cross Fair is no exception to the Phuket festivities! Throughout late December and early January Phuket is host to and array of Thai cuisine demonstrations, activities, performances and stalls as part of the Red Cross Fair. As the name s
uggests, these fairs are organised by the Red Cross Charity and each province holds its own celebration. The fairs have been a major annual event for the last 80 years, they originated in Bangkok with the aim of raising funds to help provide aid for in need and vulnerable people, in particular students.
Rather uniquely these fairs focus on the community spirit, friendship and support networks that criss-cross the island. They marry up the island and the mainland and unite local people, business and government sectors as well as visitors and tourists. As is expected through the origins of the event, healthcare is a large factor throughout the celebrations. The majority of the major hospitals and government offices on the island use this opportunity to promote themselves through stalls and exhibitions.
There is usually an exhibition area where you can learn more about the activities of the Thai Red Cross, have the opportunity to receive free health consultations and get basic check-ups by healthcare professionals and hospitals. There are also numerous opportunities to donate blood, if you have been screened.
Alongside the health push there is are abundance of other activities! The evenings are filled with dancing performances and live music and fairground rides and during the day there are stalls selling and displaying everything from local crafts, foods and Thai souvenirs.
The annual Phuket Red Cross Fair, another great reason to seek out phuket luxury property for sale!
