A Cultural Interlude

Bang Tao Beach
July 9, 2013A long haul flight with children can cause many parents sleepless nights, but with some careful planning and preparation the journey to and from Phuket
can be an enjoyable part of the adventure!
1. Normality loss: this is not a normal experience, and expecting your children to carry on in their normal routine can cause more upset than not. Let the kids explore the airport and the plane, answer any questions they may have (or ask a friendly flight attendant) and join in with the excitement. After they have had their fill they are more likely to eat / settle / sleep as required!
2. Be prepared: come armed with plenty of new puzzles and books, something they haven’t seen before is likely to keep them more entertained than previously used items. It’s handy to have a list of games to play without items also, such as I-spy (a novelty on a plane).
3. Bring plenty of snacks: Now is a good time to allow those treats for the children. Yes it goes against the grain to feed them sweets and biscuits but if it helps to keep them occupied and enhances their positive experience of long distance travel it can only be a good thing!
4. Bring medication: many children suffer from pain in their ears when flying or experience travel sickness. By bringing medication for such incidents you can stop 12 hours of grumbling and upset before it starts. Also remember to bring a change of clothing, for your children and yourself!
5. Don’t worry too much about other passengers! Worrying about what other people may think and trying to ensure your children are not seen or heard becomes a stress in itself! Most people are very tolerant of well behaved children and don’t begrudge the occasional tantrum or upset – these things happen!
Finally, enjoy it! This is an exciting experience for your family and is likely to be remembered as the journey to your new luxury phuket villa, and one they will want to take time and time again!
