Trekking Adventures!

There are many sports available in Phuket, from golfing and sailing to the umbitquious water sports such as jet skiing and snorkeling, all a stones throw from your beachfront villa. However one that doesn’t immediately spring to mind is walking or trekking. Perhaps this is due to the heat but to miss out on such on opportunity to see natures splendours at their finest would be a travesty! There really isn’t a better way to view the island and capture those little intricacies in the only place in the world.

In the immediate area to Vista Del Mar Phuket  is of course Naithon Beach. A small beach but captivating non the less, it has a small shallow creek at its northern end and at the southern end a river-mouth that is home to anchoring fishing boats, and a bridge that precedes the entrance to a little fishing village.

Of course for those wanting a little more adventure there are plenty of trekking expeditions available to see the wonders of Phuket. Khao Phra Thaeo National Park in the Thalang district is the last of Phukets remaining virgin rainforest  and is home to many wild animals, including several protected species. The area covers 22 sq. km and includes  Bang Pae waterfall (phukets largest waterfall), Ton Sai waterfall, the Gibbon Rehabilitation centre and several trails for hiking. An 8km hike starts at Ton Sai waterfall and  heading north-east finishes at Bang Pae waterfall. If required guides can be hired from the park office.

For the more intrepid trekker there is also Khao Sok National Park in Southern Thailand. Covering an area of about 650 sq kms the park is easily accessible from Phuket and is certainly worth visiting for the stunning limestone mountains and Cheow Larn Lake, although it may be worth staying several days to get the most out of your visit.
