Filming in Phuket
September 24, 2013On of the most amazing things about Phuket is its vast natural landscape and unrivalled beauty. In perfect harmony with this and celebrating all that is inimitable about Phuket is the Phuket Seashell museum
, based in Rawai.
One of Phukets most singular and treasured collections The museum was first opened in 1997 and is homage to the Patamakanthin brothers who, during the past 30 years, have collected over 2,000 species of shell from all corners of the world, including many unique and rare finds.
Highlights of the collection include the only left-handed Noble Volute (a patterned snail shell), giant clams, the world’s largest golden pearl that weighs in at 140 karats, a 250 kg shell and fossils that are 380 million years old!
This museum is highly regarded by shell collectors around the world, many of whom travel to Phuket just to see the collection. The collection is very much a family affair, started by Somchai Patamakanthin and supported by his brothers. He has now inspired his son Jom to open a smaller shell museum, called Shell world Museum, in Patong.
Phuket Seashell museum is located in Rawai, approximately 45 minutes drive from Vista del Mar Phuket sea view villas and is open daily.
